South Dakota follows the federal OSHA rule (29 CFR 1910.151(b)): there is no fixed first-aider-to-employee ratio, but where no infirmary or clinic is in near proximity, the employer must ensure trained first-aiders with adequate supplies are readily available.
South Dakota childcare licensing (S.D. Admin. R. 67:42:17:46) requires every provider giving direct care to be certified in pediatric CPR with a hands-on skills test and to complete pediatric first aid training, on a five-year renewal cycle, with online courses accepted.
South Dakota's Good Samaritan law (SDCL § 20-9-4.1) protects any person who in good faith and without compensation renders emergency care at the scene, except for gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct, with separate AED immunity and no legal duty to rescue.
South Dakota does not set a fixed continuing-education hour standard for nurses; competence is shown through documented practice (140 hours in 12 months or 480 hours over 6 years) attested at renewal to the South Dakota Board of Nursing, so a CPR course meets an employer or facility standard rather than a licensure CE requirement.
South Dakota does not mandate CPR for nurse aide certification (a 75-hour program), but long-term-care and home-care employers commonly require a recognized, up-to-date CPR and first-aid certificate, often within a few months of hire.
South Dakota requires current first-aid and CPR training for resource (foster) parent applicants, approved resource families and respite caregivers under the Department of Social Services, renewed on a roughly two-year cycle.
Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in South Dakota, with no explicit ban on the online format; OSHA interpretation letters favor a hands-on skills evaluation, so blended formats are recommended.
