In South Dakota, residential settings for vulnerable adults and seniors — assisted living centres, nursing facilities and home-care services — depend on nurse aides who can act quickly in a medical emergency. To protect residents, these settings commonly expect their care staff to hold first-aid and CPR training.

急救要求
Care staff on site are commonly expected to be prepared for a cardiac or choking emergency. South Dakota does not mandate CPR for nurse aide certification (a 75-hour program), but long-term-care and home-care employers commonly require it, often to be obtained within a few months of hire.
A recognized, up-to-date CPR and first-aid certificate is the way to meet this employer expectation; it is in addition to the aide's occupational training and must be renewed periodically.
